National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)

AOTA has a relationship with the National Association of Home Builders through NAHB Remodelers and the Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) Board of Governors in particular. An AOTA representative sits on the CAPS Board of Governors as a non-voting member. AOTA and NAHB encourage collaboration of CAPS remodelers and OTs in home modifications for aging in place and accessibility. Many OTs with an interest in home modifications have received the CAPS training and designation in order to better understand the home modifications process from the design/build professional focus and to better communicate with them. AOTA members contribute articles to the CAPS Connection newsletter and have won several awards from the CAPS program. NAHB representatives have co-presented with AOTA members at various conferences and have written for AOTA’s Home Modification Self-Paced Clinical Course.
