08-16-05 - Dialogue Starters for the New IDEA

The IDEA Partnership has completed work on a set of Dialogue Starters for the new IDEA, which can be accessed from their Web site. Topics include alignment of IDEA and NCLB, early intervening services, discipline, highly qualified teachers, IEPs, transition, and Part C options.

The Dialogue Starters are designed to support and facilitate interactive discussions across stakeholders in states and districts on specific topics and issues related to IDEA implementation.

The Starters and other Dialogue Guides circulates a common set of source materials and suggested procedures for involving families, practitioners, professional associations, professors, policymakers, legislators around implementation issues. The Partnership plans to collect and share the stories of your dialogue and add your suggestions. In this way, the Partnership hopes to build a true collaboration with stakeholders in every role and in every part of the country.
