The White House Conference on Aging

The White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA) occurs once a decade to make aging policy recommendations to the President and Congress, and to assist the public and private sectors in promoting dignity, health, independence, and economic security of current and future generations of older persons.

Beginning in 2005, Solutions Forums were held to gather input from stakeholders on possible solutions and recommendations on aging issues. AOTA sponsored such an event on May 13, 2005, during the 2005 Annual Conference in Long Beach.

The WHCoA presented its recommendations at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, DC, on December 11-14, 2005.

Occupational therapists who attended the Conference demonstrated the CarFit program for U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Minetta.

Delegates to the WHCoA reviewed the Forums' recommendations and determined the ultimate 50 policies and implementation strategies that were forwarded to the White House and Congress June 2006.
