Membership Types and Fees

Occupational Therapist
Individuals who have completed a 4-year degree or master's program and are certified to practice occupational therapy in the United States.
$225 per year. Full member benefits.

Occupational Therapy Assistant
Individuals who have completed a 2-year degree and are certified to practice occupational therapy as an assistant in the United States.
$131 per year. Full member benefits.

Student-Plus
Students enrolled in OT or OTA programs accredited or granted developing program status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) who have not yet taken the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT) examination. (Exception: Occupational therapy assistants enrolled in accredited educational programs for occupational therapists.)
$75 per year. Benefits include 22 issues of OT Practice and access to the Student-Plus Fieldwork Listserv.

Standard Student
Students must meet the same criteria listed above for Student-Plus membership. Member benefits for Standard Student members include a subscription to the American Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT), and discounts on AOTA publications, products, and services. Standard Student members are not eligible to receive a subscription to OT Practice and do not qualify for participation in the SISs.
$53 per year.

Individual Associate Membership
AOTA Individual Associate Memberships are ideal for health professionals who work alongside occupational therapy professionals. Individual Associate membership also keeps occupational therapists certified in foreign countries in touch with the profession here in the United States.

Individual Associate members receive the American Journal of Occupational Therapy (6 issues/yr), one Special Interest Section Quarterly newsletter (4 issues/yr) and online access to all SIS Quarterly newsletters and archives, OT Practice, and discounts on other periodicals, publications and products, as well as access to the Members Only portion of the AOTA Web site.
$225 per year.

Organizational Associate Membership
Organizational Associate Membership is designed for other health organizations and institutions, nonprofit facilities, libraries, and educational programs.

Organizational membership benefits include subscriptions to the American Journal of Occupational Therapy, OT Practice, and 11 quarterly specialty interest sections newsletters as well as discounts on AOTA publications and products. Also discounted are one annual conference registration and one continuing education program.
$387 per year.

New Practitioner - First Year
Individuals who have completed a 4-year degree or master's program and have passed the NBCOT exam in the past 12 months qualify for reduced membership dues. To qualify you must have received your NBCOT certificate no more than 12 months prior to the date you apply for membership. You must attach a copy of your NBCOT certificate to your application.
$119 for OTs / $95 for OTAs. Full member benefits.

New Practitioner - Second Year
Individuals who have completed a 4-year degree or masters program and have passed the NBCOT exam more than 12 months ago but less than 24 months prior to application for membership. You must attach a copy of your NBCOT certificate to your application.
$175 for OTs / $120 for OTAs. Full member benefits.

Retired OT or OTA
People age 65 or older who no longer work can fill out a form stating that they qualify for Retired dues, which are half of the regular dues for OTs or OTAs. Retired membership dues are granted for as long as the member is not paid for employment in any capacity.
50% off regular dues.

Waived Dues for Medical Reasons
OTs and OTAs who have a permanent disability and are no longer employed due to the permanent disability can qualify. 

To qualify, the OT or OTA must have been a member of AOTA at the onset of disability and must provide satisfactory verification of the permanent disability from the Social Security Administration, the Veteran's Administration, workers' compensation, or a qualified physician.  

Individuals must submit documentation showing their disability status along with the AOTA request form for waived dues. Waived medical dues are for 1 year only. Upon renewal, the member must reapply and submit the same type of documentation as the previous year.

Post-Professional Master's Degree (2-year membership)
OTs enrolled full-time in a master's-degree program may receive special membership dues for a 2-year period. Candidates must send a letter to AOTA from their department chair on university stationery stating their full-time enrollment status. Members may qualify for this category only once. $300 for the 2-year period.
Eligible for installment plan: $150 per year. Call for details.

Post-Professional Doctorate Degree (4-year membership)
OTs enrolled full-time in a doctorate-degree program may receive special membership dues over a 4-year period. Candidates must send a letter to AOTA from their department chair on university stationery stating their full-time enrollment. The membership is for a 4-year period. Members may qualify for this category only once. $600 for the 4-year period.
Eligible for installment plan: $150 per year. Call for details.
