Elin Schold Davis, OTR/L, CDRS, is the Older Driver Initiative Project Coordinator for the American Occupational Therapy Association based in Bethesda, MD.
Schold Davis earned her BS in Occupational Therapy from the University of Minnesota and became a certified driver rehabilitation specialist through the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED).
Her experience in long-term care and adult rehabilitation at The Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, led Schold Davis to her current position. Since 2003, the projects of the AOTA Older Driver Initiative have been building awareness of occupational therapy’s role in senior safe mobility while increasing the capacity of occupational therapy programs to address driving as an instrumental activity of daily living.
Under Schold Davis’ guidance, AOTA holds cooperative agreements with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to develop education and awareness-building materials, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Age Lab to explore collaborative research, and The Hartford Advance 50 Team to develop an educational brochure.
Schold Davis is a member of the American Society on Aging’s DriveWell Speakers Bureau, a member of the Transportation Research Board’s Safe Mobility for Older Persons Committee, and AOTA’s national liaison/instructor for CarFit, a program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them to increase safety.
