AOTA Honored at Alternative Commuting Excellence Awards Ceremony

AOTA recently received an award from Montgomery County, Maryland, for its high quality alternative commuting programs.

The Advocates for Alternative Commuting Excellence Awards are presented to county businesses that provide outstanding programs that promote alternatives to drive-alone commuting by their employees.

AOTA was proud to be selected as a 2009 Honoree for a variety of programs that help to support the County's goals.  Specific programs mentioned at the ceremony were the Telecommuting Program, Flexible Work Schedule Program, transportation subsidy, SmartBenefits Program, and AOTA staff participation in the 2008 Walk and Ride Challenge contest. The other two honorees were The CoStar Group and Griffin Cycle.

The goal of the county is to partner with local businesses to address traffic congestion and air quality challenges, and contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly community, while at the same time helping their employees get to work in a less stressful and more cost-effective manner. More than 80 businesses in the Bethesda, Md. area participate in the program.

AOTA received a plaque that will be displayed in the 11th floor conference room and will be mentioned in the next Bethesda Transportation Solutions newsletter.
