Bringing OT Research to the Forefront

AOTA’s Media Relations Office is continuing to work with AOTA members who have conducted occupational therapy-related research and had papers accepted to peer-reviewed journals.

The goal is to publicize the research and findings on topics of interest to health policymakers, scientists, and the public.

One of the first research studies—on the benefits of occupational therapy and exercise for osteoarthritis—was picked up by the news syndication service, HealthDay, on September 30. The article featured comments from the study’s author, Dr. Susan L. Murphy, ScD, OTR. Dr. Murphy is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Michigan Medical School and a Research Health Science Specialist at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System.

The HealthDay story also appeared in U.S. News & World Report, the Washington Post, iVillage and MSN Health.

In addition, the Philadelphia Inquirer, AARP Bulletin, Rehab Magazine and Arthritis Magazine have also interviewed Dr. Murphy, and additional articles are expected.
