The "Smiling Faces"

“Living Life To Its Fullest” applies to people of all ages, types, and situations. Each smiling face pictured in our AOTA poster and brochures could belong to anyone—a parent, spouse, child, or friend—whose life has been touched by occupational therapy. Their smiles represent what occupational therapy achieves for people—happiness, acceptance, achievement, in short, Living Life To Its Fullest.
Occupational therapy is unique for each individual and is based on science and evidence about how people engage in their lives. The poster isn’t a literal illustration of occupational therapy techniques. It symbolizes what occupational therapy accomplishes: a life lived as fully as possible.
Occupational therapy helps clients recover from major surgery, adapt to serious illness and perform daily tasks in their lives, and helps promote a healthier lifestyle to prevent illness or injury. It looks at the whole person and helps them to function at the highest possible level, build independence, participate in everyday activities that make life worth living—and smile!
That’s why we have chosen to communicate this feeling with simple images that we hope will help the public to clearly understand the fundamental, important, and valuable outcomes that occupational therapy achieves for people in all situations.
We encourage you to adopt “Living Life To Its Fullest” as a simple, yet powerful, message. Use it daily to help communicate the essence of our profession to clients, consumers, fellow health care professionals, and everyone who can benefit from all that occupational therapy has to offer.
