Attention Practitioners Who Supply Orthotics & Prosthetics!
As you may know, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) allows certain health professionals to continue to supply DMEPOS to their patients without obtaining supplier accreditation unless CMS develops accreditation quality standards specifically for physicians and health professionals.
CMS has not published a timeline to develop new quality standards for exempted physicians and health professionals. Based on previous policies, a three-year supplier accreditation would cost an estimated minimum of $3,000 per physician or health professional for each location where that individual supplies DMEPOS.
It remains uncertain if this exemption will remain in effect. It is our hope that we can make this exemption permanent for physicians and other health care professionals; however to do so we need your help!
