Share your research: Submit an article
If you are engaged in research, particularly clinical trials, consider submitting a manuscript to AJOT. The primary mission of AJOT is to publish peer-reviewed research examining the effectiveness and efficacy of occupational therapy practice so that occupational therapy professionals can make informed, evidence-based decisions about best practice. The journal aims to publish:
- Research documenting the reliability and validity of occupational therapy instruments;
- Studies demonstrating a relationship between occupational engagement and the facilitation of community participation and health; and
- Articles that provide a forum for scholars to debate professional issues that affect education, practice, and research.
With a two-year impact factor of 2.1 and a five-year impact factor of 3.2, AJOT is one of the most highly ranked journals in occupational therapy.

About AJOT
AJOT is a bimonthly journal, publishing six regular issues plus two or three special supplements each year. AJOT's Editor-in-Chief is Stacey Reynolds, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, Professor, Department of Occupational Therapy, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA. Her term began in July 2020.
Since January 2019, AJOT has been an online-only publication. The search tools on the AJOT website make it easy to stay current on clinical findings and access essential research to help you in your practice. The AJOT site also includes Special Collections on key topics, including AOTA Practice Guidelines. Article-based continuing education courses are also available to help advance your career and meet your certification and licensure requirements.
Along with some of the highest quality occupational therapy research in the field today, AJOT is the repository for historical archival content of AOTA, including the Eleanor Clarke Slagle Lectures, AOTA Presidential Addresses, and AOTA Official Documents.
AOTA members and AJOT subscribers have online access to all issues, supplements, full-text articles, and archives dating back to 1980. Nonmembers may view abstracts online but must purchase full-text content.
