AOTA advocates to protect higher education financial aid

AOTA is pushing federal policy makers to protect key financial aid programs that help future occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants afford their education. Right now, the Administration and Congress are debating the federal budget, and proposed changes to Pell Grants, Grad Plus Loans, Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), and Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) programs could reduce the tuition support, making it even harder for students to pursue careers in occupational therapy. With workforce shortages already an issue, cutting these programs would only discourage new professionals from entering the field of occupational therapy, making it even tougher for people to access the therapy services they need.

To stop these harmful cuts, AOTA is asking everyone to reach out to their Members of Congress and push for continued investment in higher education financial aid. Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants play a vital role in hospitals, schools, and home health care, and without strong financial support, fewer people will be able to join the profession. AOTA is committed to advocating for policies that help grow the occupational therapy workforce, making sure students can get the education and training they need to meet the rising demand for care.
