Reasoning through Uncertainty: Encouraging Creative Innovation in Education.
Every day, occupational therapists encounter uncertainty or, “the dynamic, subjective perception of not knowing what to think, feel, or do” (Lee et al., 2021, p. 1195).
Having awareness of not knowing often leads to mental discomfort and, increasingly, the ability to manage uncertainty has been discussed as a competency in both occupational therapy practice (Galvaan et al., 2021) and health professions education (Mylopoulos et al., 2016).
In this Practice Chat, we will examine uncertainty, provide an opportunity for reflection of personal experiences of uncertainty, and dialogue about strategies to support practitioners, educators, and students to practice, teach, and learn through uncertainty.
Our discussion will be facilitated by this group of academics and clinicians who have a strong interest in professional reasoning and advancing andragogical approaches that advance flexibility and creativity:
