Assembly of Student Delegates

About the Assembly of Student Delegates (ASD)

As a standing committee of the Board of Directors, the ASD Steering Committee serves the ASD membership by synthesizing student concerns to represent the student point of view to the Representative Assembly, the Commission on Practice, the Commission on Education, the Volunteer Leadership Development Committee, and all other bodies of AOTA as needed.

Each OT and OTA educational program elects or appoints one representative and one alternate. (Representatives and Alternates can register their terms at the callout box titled “Is your ASD registration up to date?”)

The ASD meets virtually multiple times per year, as well as in person at AOTA INSPIRE | Annual Conference & Expo.

The Assembly of Student Delegates Steering Community (ASDSC) supports ASD members with information, guidance, and connectivity.

Written by students for students, the OT Student Pulse is a monthly e-newsletter that includes digestible updates and perspectives on occupational therapy issues, news, resources, and opportunities that are meaningful and relevant to students.

The OT Student Pulse Editorial Team is accepting editorial submissions as well as applications for volunteer Associate Editors on a rolling basis.

The AOTPAC Student Challenge is an annual fundraising event sponsored by the AOTA Assembly of Student Delegates Steering Committee to foster OT student interest and engagement with AOTPAC's ongoing efforts. In 2003 to 2004, members of the University of New Mexico Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) issued a challenge—to either meet or exceed the funds they had raised and donated to AOTPAC. This has now become a part of SOTA annual fundraising events.

The ASDSC to Classroom was an opportunity arranged by ASDSC for students to connect with members of the Steering Committee to discuss important, current issues within the occupational therapy profession. This program is no longer offered; ASD Representatives are invited to take part in collaborative, discussion-based Tri-annual meetings instead. Individuals are welcome to contact the Steering Committee at asd@aota.org for connection requests, feedback, and suggestions!

The Special Interest Sections (SISs) strive to create connection between members of similar practice interest and expertise. They utilize platforms such as CommunOT, practice chats, journal clubs, and networking events. The SIS Council invites student interns each year to serve in 1-year terms on each of the 9 SIS standing committees. Applications open in the spring.
