PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Fibromyalgia is a complex condition that affects approximately 4 million adults in the United States. The widespread pain causes chronic pain, fatigue, and other symptoms that result in a decreased quality of life. Often, fibromyalgia is a secondary diagnosis seen in rehab settings and can be overlooked. This webinar will help you gain an understanding of fibromyalgia and how occupational therapists can play a pivotal role in its treatment and the overall performance outcomes of those living with it.

SPEAKER

R GillettRebecca Gillett, MS, OTR/L

Rebecca Gillett has practiced occupational therapy for more than 15 years and has her own occupational therapy practice, Insight Wellness, in Centennial, Colorado, with a focus on education and consultation for people living with chronic diseases. Her clinical experience as an occupational therapist in a variety of settings provides her with a broad knowledge of skills, but she also brings her personal experience of living with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, giving her a unique perspective as a health care professional.

Prior to her occupational therapy career, she worked in broadcast journalism and marketing. She has been featured in AOTA’s OT Practice publication for her efforts to grow the field of occupational therapy to help others with rheumatic diseases. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication from the University of Florida and her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University.

Rebecca is passionate about elevating the patient voice and advocating for access to affordable health care for all. She has served on the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs’ Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program, providing consumer insight in the evaluation of research applications related to arthritis. She is also a board member of the Governor of Colorado’s Health Insurance Affordability Enterprise Board. She is a member of the Association of Rheumatology Professionals and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
