The Critical Role of OT Practitioners in Disaster and Emergency Management
Upon registration you will receive the Zoom link and a calendar invite to download.
This practice chat is jointly sponsored by the SIS communities of Developmental Disabilities, Home and Community Health and Rehabilitation & Disability.
Our presentation will explore the unique preparedness needs of vulnerable populations, examining what is known and unknown about real-world challenges faced by clients across the lifespan.
The discussion will emphasize the critical role of occupational therapy practitioners in disaster and emergency management, framed around the four phases of FEMA’s disaster management cycle. For example, we will cover practical applications such as developing emergency plans and creating occupation-based go-bags/kits (Balog et al., 2023). Additionally, we seek feedback on Project PrOTect, our innovative, community-facing program developed through connections within the CoP.
This chat will be guided by the co-facilitators of the Emergency Response and Disaster Management Community of Practice.
Emily Balog, PhD, OTR/L, ECHM and Mary Schmitz, OTD, OT/L, ECHM have extensive knowledge and expertise as Emergency Managers and CERT team members.
We welcome individuals at all levels, from those with no prior knowledge to seasoned experts.
