The quality improvement difference: Valuing the occupational therapy perspective
Focusing on quality improvement (QI)—defined as “the framework used to systematically improve care … [that] seeks to standardize processes and structure to reduce variation, achieve predictable results, and improve outcomes for patients, health care systems, and organizations” (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services [CMS], n.d.-b, para. 2)—is important in all aspects of health care, including occupational therapy. Through the QI process, occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) can ensure that the highest level of service to clients, coworkers, and the health care community at large is provided.
