Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic condition caused by trisomy of chromosome 21. It has been identified as the most common cause of intellectual disability, with a prevalence of more than 200,000 individuals in the United States (de Graaf et al., 2017). The number of individuals with DS aged 18–60
