PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The LGBTQIA+ community includes transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) individuals whose experiences may necessitate unique considerations when navigating engagement in daily occupations, especially during activities of daily living. It is important for occupational therapy practitioners to have an understanding of the TGNC population, including considerations for each area of occupation. This webinar will provide occupational therapy students, practitioners, and educators with information about supporting TGNC individuals’ engagement and participation in activities of daily living, expanding on the information provided in “Caring for TGD Individuals: ADLs and IADLs”, with intermediate level considerations and applications for practice. Participants will learn about foundational terminology and gender-affirming ADL practices, including binding and tucking, stand-to-pee devices, and more.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand terminology relating to gender-affirming care and ADLs.
  • Apply one’s understanding of how ADLs contribute to one’s gender expression.
  • Understand and analyze the process of binding and tucking and identify safety considerations of each.
