Fitness in the Parks: A Community-Based Falls Prevention Program for Older Adults

Falls are the leading cause of injury for older adults (National Council on Aging [NCOA], n.d.), with Medicare costs resulting from falls among this population estimated at $31.3 billion annually (Burns et al., 2016). Without adequate intervention, a projected 11.9 million people will be injured from falls in 2030 (Bergen et al., 2016), limiting these individuals’ ability to participate in valued occupations.
