Practitioner health and wellness

Schneider and colleagues (2021) completed a systematic review to identify factors that supported the psychological well-being of health care providers during the SARs-CoV-2 public health emergency. Thirty-nine studies were included in the review. Support from supervisors and co-workers was associated with reduced post-traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety. Other supportive factors included positive feedback about job performance and access to mental health services. Factors that negatively affected well-being and led to burnout included increased levels of job-related stress, lack of resources, and limited support from social networks outside of work. Lack of support from supervisors and co-workers, previous negative experiences, feelings of uncertainty, as well as the consumption of news and social media were associated with distress.
