Chronology of Code Development Process

2011 The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) asked the American Medical Association (AMA) to review all of the codes in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Section of the CPT® Codes. CMS' purpose was to have AMA revalue the codes to make sure they were not being paid at too high a rate. AOTA and the American Physical Therapy Association went to the AMA and said the codes need to be brought up to date consistent with current practice. The AMA
