Save the Dates: October 16 to 20, 2023!—AOTA’s Grassroots Advocacy Learning Intensive
Join us for the Grassroots Advocacy Learning Intensive—a virtual event for new and returning advocates with daily activities to stretch your congressional advocacy muscles. You can register on the AOTA website (www.aota.org/takeaction) to receive updates.
When we say “recess,” the general public tends to think of monkey bars, swings, and tetherball.
In DC, recess means Congress is taking a temporary break from the hustle and bustle that is business in the U.S. Capitol. It’s that simple; Congressional business is on pause. During this time, your legislators are in their home districts. They are talking to constituents, fundraising, or even taking an actual vacation.
*DC Secret* By law August recess must last the entire month of August.
Congressional recess means your legislators are most likely in your district. They want to hear what you have to say. The best way to find out where they are going to be is to sign up for their mailing list or contact their local office. You can do either of those things on your legislator’s website.
*Tip* For the most part:
Representatives’ websites will be: LastName.house.gov
Senators’ websites will be: LastName.senate.gov
You can also use AOTA’s Legislative Action Center (www.aota.org/takeaction) and enter your address to be matched with your legislators, contact them by writing your own letter or a prewritten but fully editable letter, and learn more about many of the issues on which ATOA is currently advocating before Congress.
