5 Ways to Fight Cuts to Therapy Services

Each year, Medicare and other payers revise payment policies impacting reimbursement of occupational therapy services. AOTA’s State, Federal, and Regulatory Affairs teams actively monitor these changes and engage with Congress and payers to advocate on related occupational therapy reimbursement issues, but our impact is greatest when the voices of our members are raised in support of change.

Join AOTA’s advocacy efforts to fight cuts to occupational therapy reimbursement

Here are 5 easy things you can do to join our advocacy work and fight the cuts:

  1. Become an AOTA member. In addition to access to member-only content and resources, free webinars, and discounted conference rates, your yearly AOTA membership helps support advocacy efforts on a state and national level.
  2. Stay informed. Follow AOTA on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn; read the OT Practice Pulse e-newsletter; and periodically check AOTA’s website and Legislative Action Center to identify current issues impacting occupational therapy.
  3. Share information on social media. On Twitter and Instagram, you can join AOTA and our partner organizations in using #fightthecut. On Facebook and LinkedIn, you can direct others to AOTA’s website resources.
  4. Contact your Senators and your Representatives. AOTA’s Legislative Action Center makes it easy to call, write, and engage on social media with members of Congress through templates that can be personalized to tell your own story. Share how proposed or finalized cuts made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services or other third-party payers impact your ability to provide occupational therapy services, and how these cuts will reduce beneficiary access to the services you provide. Contact your insurance representatives and advocate for equitable coverage for OT services.
  5. Encourage others to advocate. Share details about your personal advocacy efforts, and those of AOTA, with your friends and family, and encourage them to help advocate to maintain client access to needed occupational therapy services.

Thank you in advance for joining AOTA’s grassroots advocacy campaign. Together, we can fight to ensure continued access to occupational therapy services.
