Using community-based OT to empower military spouses
Approximately 690,000 military spouses make up a diverse population that is consistently facing the unique and stressful challenges that military life brings (Council of Economic Advisers, 2018). The use of mental health services by military service members, their spouses, and children has increased significantly in the past decade, which indicates military families are recognizing the need for help in navigating such challenges (Cogan, 2014). Now is an opportune time for occupational therapy practitioners to utilize their talents in supporting not only service members, but their families as well.
