AOTA’s new volunteer skills & competencies framework
Over the past several years there have been many conversations about how to create a culture of inclusivity, accountability, and authenticity within the volunteer leadership experience at the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Decreasing candidate pools, low voter engagement, and a lack of diversity have presented new challenges for the Association and raised questions about the efficacy of the election and appointment processes. The competence, diverse perspectives, and rich experiences of volunteers contribute to improved outcomes of governance groups by enhancing the volunteer experience, promoting and encouraging engagement of future volunteers and members, and increasing the perceived value of membership.
