The reintegration program: Fostering positive experience of self through a cancer journey
Nearly 40% of people in the United States will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point during their lifetime (National Cancer Institute, 2020). As technology advances and can more effectively detect and treat cancer, the number of cancer survivors will continue to increase. By 2030, it is estimated that 22.1 million Americans will be living with a history of cancer (Miller et al., 2019). Survivors of cancer have distinct medical and significant psychosocial needs that can persist throughout the lifespan if not appropriately addressed (Kuswanto et al., 2018).
