HOME & COMMUNITY HEALTH

The changing meaning of home and the impact on caregivers

A house becomes a home when it supports meaningful experiences and occupations (Gulwadi, 2009). Occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) recognize the impact of the home environment on physical performance but may underemphasize the accompanying emotional investment in the space. Home provides security, safety, refuge, control, and self-identity, contributing significantly to overall health and well-being (Soilemezi et al., 2017).
