Using the Model of Human Occupation as a framework for promoting occupational engagement among socially isolated older adults

Volkmer, K. (2022). Using the Model of Human Occupation as a framework for promoting occupational engagement among socially isolated older adults. SIS Quarterly Practice Connections, 7(2), 21–23.

Social isolation, defined as the objective lack of contact and interaction with a person, family, or friends (Fakoya et al., 2020), has been identified as a significant threat to public health, particularly among older adults (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021), who, even outside of a global pandemic, are an estimated 50% more likely to experience chronic loneliness from prolonged social isolation than others (Briguglio et al., 2020).
