People with neurological conditions often experience occupational disruptions that require occupational therapy (OT) practitioners to assess and support the development and maintenance of health across their lives using habilitation and environmental strategies (Baum, 1995). It is critically important to recognize the interrelationship between neurological conditions, occupational needs, and sensory processing.

Sensory Integration & Processing Special Interest Section

The Sensory Integration & Processing Special Interest Section (SIPSIS) focuses on the research and development of sensory integration theory, assessment, and intervention as applied in occupational therapy practice. Sensory integration is used to enrich the occupational performance and participation of individuals with a variety of disabilities across the lifespan by focusing on the neurobiological, sensory, and praxis foundations of occupation.
