Out-of-State Fieldwork: Empowering Ourselves to Empower Others

By Phillip Lin, University of Southern California Though initially daunting, pursuing fieldwork at an out-of-state site can be a highly rewarding, meaningful, and edifying experience. Having grown up in California, I felt reluctant to venture to a site that was outside my comfort zone of Los Angeles. However, when the opportunity to have a Level II fieldwork at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System Home presented itself, I found myself caught between two competing
