Letter from the Editor: Lily Weinberg

Hi! My name is Lily, and I am the Editor-in-Chief of the OT Student Pulse (OTSP). Although this is our first introduction, it also happens to be a goodbye note — this will be my final issue. Over the past year, the OTSP team of student editors has worked to bring you engaging and informative content in a monthly newsletter. It has been a privilege to lead this group and collaborate with student writers from across the country.

Having completed my undergraduate studies with a BA in journalism and spent five years in the media industry before my OT school journey, I was extremely excited when I learned about the OTSP — a way to combine my interests: journalism and occupational therapy. The role not only allowed me to refine my editing skills and collaborate with professionals at AOTA but also enabled me to expand my network by connecting with fellow students. I've had the opportunity to learn about various OT programs, explore ways students are actively involved, get tips for navigating school successfully, hear about diverse fieldwork experiences, gather insights into NBCOT preparation, and much more.

One aspect I've particularly appreciated is the ability to discuss occupational therapy outside of academia. As we all know, striking a balance with enjoyable occupations beyond graduate school is crucial. Our monthly editorial meetings and conversations with student writers have allowed me to connect with individuals who share a similar passion for advancing the occupational therapy field. I encourage all students, even beyond the OTSP, to actively engage with aspects of our profession that resonate with you. Lead student groups, volunteer at local conferences, or even simply stay updated on occupational therapy news and current issues—there are so many different ways to contribute beyond the classroom.

So, while I would love to continue in this role, it's important to me that OTSP remains a platform created by students, for students. With that, I am extremely excited to introduce Carley Yanuck, a third-year OTD student at Washington University in St. Louis, as the next editor-in-chief of OTSP. Carley's innovative and creative approach, along with her previous experience as an editor, will bring a fresh perspective to The Pulse. I can’t wait to see the ways it continues to grow.

Thank You!

Lily
