Meet the New OT Student Pulse Editor-in-Chief

Dear AOTA Student Pulse Community,

I am thrilled to step into the role of Editor-in-Chief for OT Student Pulse, a publication I have worked on for the past year as a student Associate Editor. The Student Pulse is a unique project within AOTA, as it is written by students for students. The student voice is unique in that we face our distinct struggles: navigating school, clinical experiences, and boards, to name a few! As Editor-in-Chief, my commitment to you is to ensure that the Student Pulse reflects the continually evolving experience, innovative practices, and emerging voices of the profession while offering a kaleidoscope of perspectives and experiences that resonate with our readership.

Here are a few key areas where I am committed to focusing our efforts:

  1. Celebrating Diversity and Inclusivity
    • The profession is built on the principles of equity and inclusivity. The Pulse is a platform where student voices are celebrated. The Pulse aims to create a community of OT  and OTA students who utilize our unique stories to build awareness of the profession, helping to push the boundaries of representation and inclusion.
  2. Showcasing Student Initiatives and Emerging Trends
    • We want to hear about the incredible initiatives and programs that our student community creates, as well as your everyday experiences as students. Please share your projects, experiences, and success stories with us so that we can celebrate our amazing student body through the Pulse!
    • Occupational therapy practice is constantly evolving, and we want to hear your narratives about nontraditional fieldwork and capstone projects. Occupational therapy has the potential to touch the lives of so many, and at the Pulse we want to hear about how students are pushing the profession forward and expanding the boundaries of occupational therapy.
  3. Empowering Student Voices
    • Your experiences matter. We want to hear your stories, challenges, and triumphs. The Pulse will continue to feature student-written articles, spotlights, and reflections, providing you with a platform to share your journey.
  4. Adding a Little Bit of Fun
    • Many of you have already participated in the Pulse’s new addition: The OTSP Pet of the Month competition! Because of occupational therapy, we understand the power and importance of leisure activities. Our pets play a vital role in promoting health and well-being. Please keep your adorable pet submissions coming!

I am so excited to carry the Pulse forward and witness how my fellow students enact powerful positive changes within their communities. Thank you for entrusting me with this role. Cheers to a bright 2024.

Sincerely,

Carley Yanuck, MM
