Incorporating Work Tasks Into Occupational Therapy Treatments: Increasing Motivation for Clients With Neurologic Conditions
For most adults, work is one of their most important, fulfilling, and long-standing occupations. After acquiring a neurologic condition, the desire for independence, identity, and self-actualization becomes a primary driving factor for rehabilitation (Hees et al., 2013; Frostad Liaset & Lorås, 2016). Occupational therapy practitioners should begin connecting realistic, long-term goals of returning to work early in the plan of care, even in the context of basic tasks.
