ChatGPT in occupational therapy education

Artificial intelligence (AI) is growing at an exponential rate and becoming more common in higher education, including occupational therapy (OT) education. Popenici & Kerr (2017) define AI as “computing systems that are able to engage in human-like processes such as learning, adapting, synthesizing, self-correction, and use of data for complex processing tasks” (p. 2). AI aspires to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as the ability to learn, adapt, rationalize, and understand (Sallam, 2023). One of the most widely known AI platforms currently used is ChatGPT, which allows a user to produce text and images, answer questions, and perform other tasks based on user input. The user can input requests ranging from broad to specific into ChatGPT, depending on what they want to accomplish.
