Student admissions: Increasing underrepresented minority populations in the workforce

Diversity within the profession of occupational therapy has been a long-standing topic of discussion. Occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) treat individuals with diverse backgrounds. Currently, the health care system faces increased health disparities within underrepresented minority (URM) populations, and there is evidence that URM groups prefer and have better experiences receiving treatment from individuals who share their background (Taff & Blash, 2017). Many health disparities that are present within URM populations can be linked to the lack of UMR clinicians (Brown et al., 2021).
