Responsive feeding intervention: Impacts on mealtime engagement and skill development

Occupational therapy practitioners use a variety of interventions and approaches to treat children with feeding disorders, resulting in positive outcomes (Howe & Wang, 2013); however, responsive feeding has had limited exposure in the literature. Responsive feeding therapy is an approach that focuses on internal motivation, autonomy, parent/child relationships, individualized care, and competence (Rowell et al., 2021). Responsive feeding therapy aligns with occupational therapy theory as it emphasizes meaningful occupations, the child’s natural environment, and quality of life.
