Combating delirium: An occupational therapy lens

Imagine waking up in a bright, unfamiliar environment. You squint your eyes to adjust to the lighting. The mattress you are lying on is awfully uncomfortable. You try to shift your weight to find a better position, but you are met with resistance against your arms. You realize that you are bound to this uncomfortable bed. You try to yell out for help when you realize something is obstructing your airway. Trying to use your voice has caused you to cough, triggering a blaring alarm from the big machine beside you. Your eyes frantically dart around the room, catching a glimpse of your yellow grippy socks, multiple IVs attached to your arms, and an overly large gown that hangs on your body.
