From ally to co-conspirator: Taking action against racism in OT

Structural racism is a pervasive issue that has resulted in limited access to healthcare service providers, including occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) in the United States. Racism is a determinant of health that negatively impacts health outcomes for racialized communities (Paradies et al., 2015). The common focus on individual acts of racism overlooks its systemic roots. To effectively combat racism, we must both challenge individual mindsets and dismantle policies that perpetuate racial inequities.
