Surviving motherhood: Improving health outcomes for women of color

The United States has devastating maternal morbidity and mortality rates. One in six women has pregnancy-related severe complications, and 700 women die in this country each year due to pregnancy-related complications (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2021). Maternal health has become a major public health crisis, with the greatest risk being seen in women of color (The White House, 2021).
