Get to work group for high school students

In 2023, about 22.5% of people with a disability in the United States were employed or seeking employment, a shocking contrast to their age-matched, typical peers, 65.8% of whom were employed (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2023). In the United States, only 14% of adults with ASD had a paid job in the community, and the majority of individuals with ASD were employed or participated in an unpaid activity in a facility (Roux et al., 2017). If youths with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were provided with real work experiences that were both intensive and varied, they would be in a position to identify a career track and potentially secure employment on graduation from high school (Wehman et al., 2016). Although areas of occupational expertise, such as life and work skills, are effective in improving transition outcomes, occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) rarely provide transition services within the school setting (Pierce et al., 2020). However, OTPs have a vital role to play in school-to-work transition by providing expertise in modifying job skills and offering exposure to hands-on community experiences.
