Occupational therapy’s role with teenage pregnancy

Teenage pregnancy presents unique challenges that impact various aspects of a young mother’s life. In 2022, 143,789 babies were born to teen mothers ages 15 to 19, highlighting the need for comprehensive support (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022). The United States maintains one of the highest teen pregnancy rates among developed nations (Eliner et al., 2022). Teenage mothers often face health care, socio-economic, and educational barriers, which impact their long-term well-being (Otegbayo et al., 2023; Mangeli et al., 2017), while their infants face increased risks of low birth weight, preterm birth, and infant mortality (Diabelkova et al., 2023).
