ACADEMIC EDUCATION

Mission Possible: Teaching work behaviors and communication in fieldwork

Teaching work behaviors and communication skills in entry-level occupational therapy education is complex, particularly during clinical experiences where interactions with patients are high and the environment produces emerging and unfamiliar responsibilities (Berger et al., 2020). Literature related to health care professionalism has doubled from 2010 to 2019, demonstrating the increasing need to understand how to best educate and prepare health care professionals for the clinical setting (Song et al., 2021). Yet, there is no consensus on effectively educating occupational therapy students in work behaviors and communication.
