SENSORY INTEGRATION & PROCESSING

Children with a history of trauma: A case study in the application of Ayres Sensory Integration®

Childhood trauma is a public health issue. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2024), child abuse and neglect occur at a “national rate of 7.7 victims per 1,000 children.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2023) indicates that adverse childhood events (ACEs) further impact the health and well-being of children. Effects of these experiences remain with children as they develop into adulthood, which put a vulnerable population at risk for lifelong occupational participation challenges.
