Beyond scrolling: Students creating social media and podcast content

Active student engagement in learning is essential in higher education. We want our students to be innovative thinkers, flexible problem solvers, and deeply curious about how things work in the world. One strategy to develop these skills is to flip the classroom and involve students in the co-creation of their learning in ways that feel relevant to them. In our modern world, many students find value and community in virtual spaces, such as social media platforms. As faculty at Pace University, we flipped the classroom by having our students create social media content as learning tools, an activity that they reported felt both salient and engaging.
