Transition technologies that support employment, community mobility, and interpersonal skills in autism and intellectual disabilities

Persch, A., Parsons, C., Anderson, S., & Schmidt, E. (2022). Transition technologies that support employment, community mobility, and interpersonal skills in autism and intellectual disabilities. SIS Quarterly Practice Connections, 7(3).

The transition from adolescence to adulthood and employment is a significant challenge for those with intellectual disabilities (ID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD); conditions that are highly comorbid and diagnostically overshadowed (Thurm et al., 2019). Intellectual disabilities occur before age 22 and are characterized by limitations of intellectual functioning and deficits of adaptive behavior in conceptual, social, and practical domains (Schalock et al., 2021).
