Resiliency programming in OT curriculum: Implications for students, faculty, and clinicians

At the end of 2023, occupational therapists (OTs) were recognized as licensed mental health professionals in California (Berlin, 2024) after a long-awaited announcement. We are proud that our profession has deep roots within the mental health field: Occupational therapy came into existence during the First World War, when we provided services to injured soldiers (Hoover, 1996). Through the use of their hands, the soldiers weaved baskets together and consequently experienced personal satisfaction, improved mood and motivation, as well as increased their health and well-being.
