Putting the “OT” in OT-DRIVE
OT-DRIVE: Integrating the IADL of driving & community mobility into routine practice
OT-DRIVE is a model for general practice occupational therapy practitioners, offering a framework to guide interpretation of evaluation data, development of intervention strategies to support client-centered goals for driving and community mobility, and justification for referral to advanced service providers at the right time.
The OT-DRIVE model was developed to help practitioners understand how to apply their clinical knowledge and reasoning skills to the IADL of driving and community mobility for their older adult clients through a step-by-step process for planning and providing feedback to clients and families. Use the Spectrum of Decision Indicators visual for clinical judgment on determining older adults’ risk factors.
OT-DRIVE prioritizes driving & community mobility
OT-DRIVE is intended to guide practitioners to fulfill their duty to address driving as an IADL and to develop a plan that will prioritize the health and safety of the client and community.
